Morning Routines of Successful Business Owners!

Travel _ every woman on a moped in Italy wore heels like this. and had legs like this.

As a person who loves small business and entrepreneurship, having the opportunity to listen to a successful business owner’s story was exciting for me. I have been interviewing small business owner’s that I am connected with for the purpose of learning more about their business and what they did to find success. They are real people earning a living doing what is right for them.

I thought it interesting to hear how these successful business owners started their day. My intention was to learn about what they do vs. I do. It was quite interesting and surprising to hear their similarities including an early start time and consistent reviews of their to-do lists to ensure they are on-track. Below are four morning routines of successful business owners.

“The sun has not caught me in bed in fifty years.” ~Thomas Jefferson

What is your morning routine?

“I’m Davon ___ President and CEO of a management-consulting firm based out of Landover, Maryland…
Usually I start the night before and I say “Okay here’s my day plan.” In the morning, I get up and get to the office. I’m an early, riser so I usually get to the office before anyone else does and take a deep breath and say “Okay, here’s what we need to accomplish today.” If it’s a light day, then I will carve out a couple of hours to spend in business development, meaning making phone calls, setting up meetings, things like that. If it’s kind of a meeting day or whatever, then part of that day may be checking up on how is that contract coming and getting a report from our project managers and things like that. And then at the end of the day just wrapping it up and say “Okay, what did I do for that day? Did I accomplish what I needed to accomplish that day?” And then make some notes so I could be prepared for the following day.

What time do you go to the office?

    Between 7:00 and 7:30.

How many hours do you think you work?

Total probably around 50 to 60 I would think, easily 50 to 60.

Talk about your morning routine, you say you wake up at 5:00 but tell me just a little bit more.

“My name is Federico Pena. I am the Founder and Owner of IT ROI Solutions… I get up, I have conference calls in the morning, first thing in the morning and then I get online with my marketing guy and my business development guy, we go through what the plan is for the day. We resolve issues or try to resolve issues. And then I’ll grab something to eat and then I’ll go to work.”

Tell me about your morning.

“I’m Gregory _______. I am the Chairman ______which is a full service consulting firm. I am a CPA by trade. We also own two other companies; one of which invests in real estate and another which does entertainment stuff…

My morning always starts early. I usually do about 30 minutes of cardio, my little yoga stretches and my coffee, eat something and then I get busy. Morning is my favorite part of the day; it’s when I’m the most alert, when I’m the most perfect because everybody else is sleep. Morning for me means up at 4:00 or 4:30. I feel like it gives me a head start on everybody else because by the time everybody else is waking up I’ve done a half day to two-thirds of a day of work. It helps me organize and plan to all the people that works for me their workday in terms of what I need them to get done.

Going back to the quality of life thing, I know that in the afternoons I get sleepy every day so I make sure that I set aside time for my power nap in the afternoon. I know that early afternoon, if my day starts at 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning, by the time that sets in around 2:00 I’ve already done six hours. I’ve already done all the heavy lifting intellectually for the work that I do. Then at that point I’m coasting to the finish line.”

Tell me about your morning routine.

“I am John ____ President & Owner of a consulting services and software reselling firm…
The key to my morning is to go back looking at the main objectives and see if I’m trying to do a little bit on the main objectives constantly and then it really goes back to making a list. Here are the things that I’m trying to accomplish today; what did I get through yesterday? Really it is my mom’s famous list. If I ever get away from making the list then I become more disorganized, less productive and I’m just not getting as much accomplished as I need to.

*Note: Because some of the information provided is so detailed, I have been asked on several occasions to keep ownership name and company name private. Of course I honor this request grateful to hear the inside details of their success.

Yes, I agree. Knowing what you are up to the next day helps you get a head start.
Also, another person commented that the successful CEOs he knew all found private, productive time whether day or night. This was pleasing to me – the person who likes to sleep in!

  2. I think the one thing that has worked for me on the list is making the days plan the night before. This changed my life.

Interesting also that they all start the day with or beofre the sunrise.
